Transparent Video Systems Announces MovieStar and 3 other TVS Affiliates Systems Launch for Digital Cable Services Around the World
Charlotte, North Carolina (PRWEB) February 23, 2009 -- Transparent Video Systems, Inc., announced the completion and installation of 4 new Challenger all-digital platforms today at the NCTC Winter Educational Conference and Technology Showcase. Most recent CATV project completion was for MovieStar (Quark Communications), located in Guyana. Additionally, the Challenger was selected by City of Barnesville, USA Companies and EasyTel as the cable headend system to support their digital transition and be used in simulcast delivery of analog services to their growing subscriber base.
The TVS Challenger platform, delivers CATV multiplexing and signal-compression technology. The platform is designed specifically for independent cable operators, with as few as 500 subscribers, to larger operators with 100,000 plus network operations. When receiving digital programs and applications direct from programmers it is possible, in the space of a single six-foot rack, for the Challenger to provide 200-300 programs. These program sources can be analog or digital programs. The outputs can be multiple carrier, 64/256 QAM outputs or ASI for transport to other locations. Platform configurations include subscriber management system, conditional access system, interactive program guide and a range of set-top boxes.
"We are extremely pleased with helping MovieStar bring an affordable alternative of TV entertainment to the people of Guyana," said Norman Gillaspie, President of Transparent Video Systems. "Our Challenger platform was a perfect fit for a smaller cable operator who wants to compete with pricing, programming and quality of service to a subscriber base that both needs and wants choice in entertainment services."
The nation of Guyana is located between the South American Countries of Venezuela, Brazil, Suriname and the Caribbean Sea. It is slightly smaller than the US state of Idaho, with a total population of approximately 770,000. Recognizing the competitive advantage TVS Challenger platform gives, MovieStar Guyana expanded their services against DirecTV and Sky Television. Though these are two very good sources of entertainment, they can be very costly for the average Guyanese.
MovieStar's initiatives are most welcome in the Ancient Country and will complement a full spectrum of MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 applications and broadband services. The company's initial launch includes 21 channel all-digital MMDS system with plans for future expansion throughout Guyana.
An interesting note about the Guyana project is that the subscribers are being managed from the TVS Master Authorization System located in the TVS Data Center in San Jose, California. Delivery of programming over the internet saved MovieStar a considerable amount of upfront capital and ongoing operational cost even though they were located on another continent.
"We started knowing nothing about the cable business much less about digital wireless. The team at TVS held our hands from day one," said Brian Yong, Co-CEO of MovieStar Guyana. "The MUX's work seamlessly with amazing picture and sound quality, the STB's work well and are inexpensive. We highly recommend the TVS equipment, team and services. We asked a lot from TVS and got much more."
